Working Kelpie Dog Stud

The working Kelpie has been part of the rural Australian lifestyle for many years. They are a work mate and a loyal companion. They have been specifically bred for working with large mobs of sheep in the paddock or in sheep yards. Most dogs will show a natural inclination for either working in the paddock or the yards. Purebred Kelpies are black or red and tan marking on their face, chest and legs.

The Kelpie is a true blue Australian and prized by many for their ability with sheep and cattle. They go all day, often in the heat which other English dog breeds cannot tolerate. They are smart and easy to train making them a pleasure to work with.

Puppies are usually available all year round, both females and males in Black and Tan and Red and Tan. Every few years you can also find us on display at Wagin Woolarama in March.

Puppies 7- 12 weeks of age

Kelpie puppies are available from 6 -8 weeks. Most prospective buyers are encouraged to purchase puppiesin this age bracket as the bond developed at this age with their new owners is invaluable.

3 – 6 month old Started pups

If pups don’t go to new homes after being weaned they are shown sheep between the ages of 3 and 6 months to gauge the individual ability and working style of the dog.

6 – 12 month old Part – Trained working dogs

If pups stay with us longer than 6 months or show promising natural ability they will be started on sheep at Brockham stud. This usually begins in the sheep yards and then progresses to paddock training.
